On the day we set sail for the stars On the day we set sail for the moon again On the day we look up and imagine Then we might see something else before our end If we stop picking fights over nothing If we stop wasting hours spreading hate If we stop believing we will live forever Maybe we'll make our peace before too late On the day we look up and imagine All the life in the space we can't see Then one day we'll set sail for the stars Beyond the frame of this ol' milky galaxy
2.
I was made for love, in the spring time sun, in the winters rain I was made for love, under stars above, in the pleasure or pain mountains stare from afar, creeks and lakes run ajar I was made for your arms come and find me again, past the dry river bend, come the storm or the wind feeling washes away, be it night or the day, i have nothing to say sun and clouds from afar, painted like Emily Carr, i was made for your arms Solo bit... I loved you like the sky, paints for those bearing eyes, in the evening she’ll blind (all your worries with light) I was made for love, under stars above, i was made for love

In this decade i've been all i've ever dreamed Right alongside the things i'd hoped i'd never see You were well, and then you weren't, and I was ever there But is this more than we thought, more than we can bear? One long night in that room you couldn't speak a word Shit was off every chart as i exhaled a curse No one knew and no one knows what you've got inside Yet everything i've ever known wants it to be alright In the loss and the gain I've learned many things Yet through the hurt and the pain You've been everything In this decade i met darkness that old friend In that place down below to never rise again But i was wrong i couldn't see out from underneath And with help and in strength i can freely speak It is worth everything to get the help you need And through the loss and the gain you'll learn many things In this decade I've been thankful more than not And in this next decade i'll give it all i've got

isn't it all the same? everywhere you go, you get the rain in the glowing hour, you know that you're all you're on about and everywhere you go, you'll visit pain and everywhere you go, you'll get the rain everywhere you go, you get the rain

NOTE: All money/sales from this album will be going towards causes and initiatives benefitting indigenous and black lives. The time to act is now and whether you purchase this music or not, I recommend you donate to an organization of your choosing. Thank you for listening.

This is a sequel to my 2013 EP "The Elephant Tapestry", which also explored some straight-from-the-heart thoughts with little editing. I didn't think much of it at the time - and actually considered it incomplete - but over these seven intervening years I have been surprised at how much those four songs have touched people. I don't know... in all my time recording and getting obsessed with effects, experiments, and layers upon layers of instruments, somehow the things that get the most response/have the most impact are always the stripped down, straight up bits. So I'll oblige. With that I'll mention...

These are not technically perfect recordings. I find it really difficult to pore over things too much when making solo music - to me it feels like the more takes I do, the more emotion and connection with the original feeling that inspired the song is lost. I can edit myself just fine when collaborating - playing off the energy of other musicians - but when making music on my own, what you get is usually what I got at the moment it arrived, the mysterious entity known as a "song", that somehow both comes from us and from somewhere else - that can often speak out of (and back into!) our own minds and lives better than spoken or verbal forms of communication ever can. Here are four new songs. They speak to changes in belief, a growing understanding of family connection, and perhaps most poignantly, the realities of living with depression. I hope you find meaning here. With love, Dane.
