about
"Nanoose Bay" is the second single taken from Dane's upcoming album "I Love You", a collection of love letters to places, and his most breathtakingly gorgeous and personal work yet. Here, the place in question is perhaps the most dearly held and treasured of any on the album - Nanoose Bay being the community where Dane grew up, found himself, and discovered what he loved most about making music and being a human being. String arrangements and vocals from his sibling Finn, who also grew up in the small, rural Vancouver Island area, round out a folky and wistful composition that ultimately seeks to preserve in song the feelings and memories of growing up under the arbutus trees and gentle ocean breezes of home.
lyrics
Long ago, in a summer breeze
I got to choose when I fell asleep
I always knew it would be alright
My dad would come tuck me in at night, and that was my life
A shallow bay, and a big old hill
Was where we’d play, in our brighter days
When I lost the way, I would be so thrilled
Because I felt safe, and I loved that place
I still love that place!
None of this will be the same
Given time and the fading day
Brand new houses, brand new roads
I can feel my head explode
They’ve found my grove
Now it's a road
Prone to wander, and I’m prone to thought
I’ll cycle backwards, and I’ll get so lost
But in that forest, and upon that hill
I’ll reconnect there, I know I always will
I know I always will
Though none of it can be the same
I’d never go back or change a day
Through moving forward, or moving on
This serves to keep my Nanoose in song
This is my song
Always my song
